Tandem Press in Madison, Wisconsin is known for their high quality print work with artists such as Jim Dine, Judy Pfaff, Suzanne Caporael, Mickalene Thomas, and Nicola Lopez among many other established artists. Jason Ruhl, Bruce Crownover, and Joe Freye are the master printers at Tandem and I met with Jason who gave me a tour of the incredible space. One of the artists, Suzanne Caporael was also in the studio working on a new print which was a really great bonus to my visit! Tandem is outfitted with a ton of gear such as their etching and lithography presses as well as a few Vandercooks. This also includes their famous custom made 5 x 12 foot etching press which is truly one of a kind. It's pretty intimidating as you can imagine all of the crazy and huge projects that have been printed on there over the years. It was super cool to see. Another cool thing about Tandem is its in-house framing and packaging shop where they can build all sorts of crates and boxes to get the prints where they need to go, and fast. Jason told me about the multiple projects that are always in the works at Tandem and I could see just from the selection of work in the gallery upstairs that Tandem is never at rest. The high production rate is amazing and super exciting. I hope to see them again at Print Week coming up next month in NYC!
