Spudnik Press is a fun and spacious print shop located in Chicago, Illinois. They are a cooperative press meaning they rent time and space out to printmakers in the Chicago area who are looking to print their own work and use the facilities that otherwise they may not have access to. Spudnik teaches classes, holds workshops, and also offers residencies complete with a private studio. Another great aspect to the studio is their annex where they host member shows and events. Spudnik has super cheap studio rates making it a very affordable printing option for artists on a budget. They supply ink, screens, squeegees, and emulsion for silkscreen as well as other items for the other print mediums. They have a few Vandercooks and a collection of type for letterpress, a litho press, a 4 screen carousel press, and a risograph machine. While I was visiting I actually showed up during a shop certification class, so now I am certified to print at Spudnik which is awesome! If I ever end up relocating to the Chicago area, I will certainly stop by and print there. Spudnik is a very impressive shop with an exceptional amount of space, materials, and opportunities for the printmakers of Chicago. They truly promote the art of print and encourage everyone to get involved.
