It's been a busy Summer and Fall over here in Chicago! Here's a quick recap of some events I participated in recently. In June, I drove out to Easton, PA to participate in the third installment of PRINT RIOT. Then it was back to work for my solo show, Semisweet, at Your Happy Place Liquors in Chicago which opened in early August. Some recent group shows here in Chicago have been the Art of the Slice Exhibition at Galerie F, and the Chicago Printers Guild 10 Year Aniversary Show. The CPG show is currently up at the NEIU Fine Arts Center Gallery until October 25th.

About the show: This exhibition celebrates printmaking as one of the most relevant visual art forms practiced today. Twenty-six artists from across the country were chosen to demonstrate the astonishing technical breadth of the field, its deep history, perpetual innovation, and unique ability to communicate prescient social and political ideas. Judy Jones and Bill Fick bring their decades of experience, passion for print, and distinct curatorial points of view to create a dynamic vision of contemporary printmaking in the United States. I am showing a handful of small prints in this upcoming exhibition at the Chicago Printmaker's Collaborative. This is the 29th year that this show has been in existence and the third year in a row that I have participated. I just wanted to share a couple of great print events I was able to be a part of this fall! Back in October I traveled to NYC to participate in Print Week. I assisted Jennifer Melby at her booth at the Editions/Artists' Books Fair as well as exhibited some of my own work published by Cannonball Press at the fair. Working with Cannonball, I created two new black and white prints that I have featured below. It was an honor to be able to participate and exhibit in such a prominent art fair in New York City. Following the EAB Fair, I participated in the 3rd Annual Chicago Printers Guild Publisher's Fair. Hosted by Constellation, it was the CPG Fair's largest event to date. I got to exhibit with some of Chicago's finest, and it was a great day to be a Chicago printmaker! I debuted two new fish prints I had been working on which can be seen below. Thank you to the Chicago Printers Guild administration for organizing the fair for the third year in a row. I am showing work at the Big Print Show which opens at the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative tomorrow, June 23rd. Check out large scale printed works by myself, Art Werger, Aaron Coleman, Jenny Robinson, Karen Kunc, Raeleen Kao, and Teresa James. This show is part of the Chicago Print Crawl which is a self guided print tour with participating shops and galleries around the city this Sunday. The show will run through August 31st. Be sure to check it out!
This Friday and Saturday, June 8 & 9th, Brick & Mortar Gallery will be hosting the second annual PRINT RIOT in Easton, PA! Curated by Jesse Shaw, Print Riot is a two day affordable print fair featuring the work from 12 different print houses and printmakers. I will be sharing a table with Jesse, so please come by and say hello!
The fair will be in full swing on Friday from 6-10pm and on Saturday from 11-6pm. Participating vendors: Cannonball Press - Brooklyn, NY Hoofprint - Chicago, IL Fatherless - Rockford, IL IS Projects - Ft. Lauderdale, FL Carrier Pigeon - Guttenburg, NJ Paul Roden - Pittsburg, PA Drive By Joseph Velasquez - FL Anna Hasseltine - Chicago, IL Dylan Garret Smith - Bethlehem, PA The 50/50 Company - DE Printmakers Society of the Lehigh Valley - PA American Printmaker: Jesse Shaw - Bethlehem, PA RSVP to the event on Facebook here! Thank you so much to everyone that came out to my opening at Galerie F last week! I am incredibly grateful for all of the support from family, friends, and the people who I did not even know that came to see the show. It means the world to me, and I could have not asked for a better opening.
If you missed the opening night, do not fret! The show is still up for another week and a half until June 10th. All of the prints for the show are also available to purchase via the Galerie F webstore, so be sure to check that out as well. Galerie F is open Thursday-Monday from 11-6pm. The gallery is located at 2415 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL. Solo Show Announcement!
In a little less than 4 weeks I'm having my first ever solo show, "Unlikely Friends and Certain Enemies," at Galerie F in Chicago! I will be showcasing original screenprints and woodcuts. The opening reception is May 18th from 6-10pm. Exhibition runs through June 10th. I am incredibly excited and I hope to see you all there! A little about the show: UNLIKELY FRIENDS AND CERTAIN ENEMIES delves into the ancient, yet relevant, story-telling world of Aesop. Animals such as foxes, frogs, wolves, birds, and dogs find themselves in compromising and dangerous situations due to their curiosity and despite their best intentions. Personified with elements of intrinsic human behavior, Aesop’s animals show us that even though the times have changed, instinct has not. Immerse yourself in a variety of age-old stories— you might learn something new, or confirm already held beliefs about your friends and enemies. RSVP to the event on Facebook here. SGCI is back for another installment, this year in Las Vegas! Hoofprint and I drove out from Chicago, and picked up our pal Crookedpaw in Saint Louis on the way. Crookedpaw and I are sharing booth 312 at this years Vendors and Publishers Fair at Bally's Las Vegas. We will be posted up on the first floor in the Bally's Conference Room across from the Casino.
Hours are as follows: Thursday: 9am-5pm Friday: 9am-5pm Saturday: 10am-3pm Hope to see ya'll there! You can find more information about the conference here. |
